How would you compare crochet to knitting?Which is easier, which is more time consuming, which is more popular?

Just wondering because my wife does crochet sometimes, cardigans/tops/blouses, decorative tablecloths, scarfs, shawls etc. I don't do crochet or knit, lol. I'd absolutely crack up if I had to! Thanks.
