Why does everyone claim we are helping 'defenseless' rebels when officials admit they know nothing about them?

The official line is "we know nothing about them." Trust that they know plenty. All they need to do is ask some of the other Africans. The rebels are every bit as nasty as the claims against Qaddafi. If anything we should have let them fight it out and shoot the winner.
